Laurie Cavender | Artist

Artist statement

I make paintings that live between memory and moment — bold, layered works that combine abstract expressionism with modern figurative gestures. Working primarily in acrylic, I build color and texture through intuitive mark‑making to evoke atmosphere, emotion, and the shifting energy of coastal life. I’m actively building collections of original works for collectors and spaces that appreciate contemporary paintings that feel personal, bold, and alive.

Practice & influences

My process is rooted in exploration: layers of color, spontaneous marks, and passages of refinement that allow images to surface and then recede. I’m drawn to the push and pull of beauty and chaos — how a luminous palette can hold tension and invite quiet reflection. Much of my imagery is inspired by the coast, human connection, and the fragments of memory that shape perception.
